Thanks for sharing your story with us Jody. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Mark Taylor and I started Verity Recruiting in 2004. We started with humble beginnings, our first office was so small we had to take turns being on the phone so that we could have client or candidate conversations. We executed a lease on our first “real office” the Friday before Lehman Brothers went bankrupt, that fateful weekend in September 2008. We had no idea what impact that would have over our business for the next two years.
Fortunately, Verity Recruiting weathered the storm and we have experienced significant growth for the last 14 years. I wish I could say we had a magic wand, but it is really about the people. We have been blessed to hire some fantastic folks through years, they are the pillars of our success. Without our team’s dedication and commitment, Verity Recruiting would not be the company we are today. The Verity team makes a difference daily, providing clients premium IT Talent on demand. We have gained the trust of 100’s of clients in the DFW area because of our quality, service and speed of talent delivery.
We meet candidates’ face-to-face/skype and conduct thorough technical/personality interviews, this high value approach eases the challenges associated with IT talent acquisition and gives our clients back precious time. I think Verity Recruiting has built so many trusted partnerships……
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am not sure any business ever has a smooth road. After 2009, it was imperative for us to develop internal processes to support a growing business. Legislation and government policy is always a challenge for a small business. We think a little differently, when the ACA regulations started coming into focus for temporary staffing companies, we met the challenge head on. Verity Recruiting not only adapted the required healthcare coverage for temporary employees, we expanded it to include dental and vision (company partial paid). We didn’t stop there, we did something unheard of in the temporary staffing industry. We added vacation days and holiday pay to start and a year later we added a matching 401k for our consultants. This is somewhat revolutionary in the recruitment industry, but we have always viewed our consultants as an extension of our internal family. They just happen to be at a client site instead of at our office.

What were you like growing up? Personality wise, interest wise, etc.
I grew up in a small town in Arkansas. The town was small enough where you could name every person in your graduating class and when you called the wrong number, the person who answered politely gave you the correct number. My parents were hard working folks who owned their own business, they instilled a strong work ethic in myself and my 2 sisters. I grew up working in their business and knew at a young age that hard work and determination would take me far in life.
Even though the small town experience was great, I wanted to live in the big city, so I came to Dallas, TX. I knew I had the foundation and drive to do something meaningful with my life. I believed my purpose was to help people and to solve problems. My purpose was fulfilled working in the recruitment industry. The technical staffing industry basically consists of helping candidates find fulfilling jobs/careers while solving client’s problems. It is an industry that is in a constant state of change, technology is a big disruptor! We have the opportunity every day to have a significant impact and be a part of so much dynamic innovation.
The opportunity to build/own a company has been such a blessing, we have had our challenges, but those trails have made us stronger. I am so proud of what we have accomplished and excited about Verity Recruiting’s future.
I live in Plano, TX with my beautiful wife and 2 amazing daughters. I am a country boy at heart and wear boots on a regular basis. I love playing golf (even if it doesn’t love me most of the time) and I don’t think I have ever met a stranger. I don’t take life too seriously and folks who know me think I have a signature laugh, I laugh quite a bit.
